The 2024 MTV VMAs have now come and gone and the ladies have dominated this year. From the incredible host Megan Thee Stallion, to Taylor Swift breaking records and Chappell Roan acceptance speech.
Eminem and Teddy swims opened up the show with performances of Houdini and loos control. Megan thee Stallion slayed in multiple costume changes as host including an homage to Britney Spears and “im a slave for you” complete with a python. She later also performed a medley of her songs “BOA”, “HISS”, “BAS” and “Mamushi” with, the latter featuring Japanese Rapper Yuki Chiba.
Tyla took home in best Afrobeats with her hit “Water”. Taylor Swept awards taking home Artist of the year, best collaboration for “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone, Video of the year, Song of the Summer, Best pop. Katy Perry took home Most iconic Video for her 2013 performance of “Roa”r, as well as being presented video vanguard after performing a Medley of her hits including her latest single “Lifetimes”.
LISA from Kpop supergroup BLACKPINK, performed a medley of her latest solo efforts “Rockstar” and “New Woman” (feat Rosalia), as well as taking home the award for best Kpop. Sabrina Carpenter performed a medley of arguably the 3 biggest songs of the summer with “please please please”, “Espresso” and “Taste”, As well as taking out Song of the year with Espresso.
The Queen that is SZA took out the honour for best RnB, whilst Anitta took home the award for best Latin.
The most anticipated performance of the night went to Chappell Roan as she performed her monstrous hit “Good Luck, Babe”, introduced by her Drag mom the legendary Sasha Colby. Chappell also took home Best New Artist award.
